Patriot Guard Riders Thank Dyer County

This letter was submitted by Dennis Lee of the Patriot Guard Riders group that recently visited Dyer County to assist in protecting the family, friends and community that came to mourn the loss of PFC Kevin Edgin of Dyer County. PFC Edgin was killed on July 6th while serving in southern Afghanistan.

Edgin, 31 years old, was from the Good Hope community of Dyer County and served with the 10th Mountain Division of Fort Drum, NY. He was laid to rest on Saturday, July 15th.

Lee: Saturday July 15th, as you are well aware, PFC Kevin Edgin was laid to rest with full military honors.

Among those in attendance were members from several state chapters of the Patriot Guard Riders. Many thanks to them for coming form Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama as well as all over Tennessee.

Governor Phil Bredeson Visits Storm Damaged Area Near Newbern TN

NEWBERN, TN - Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredeson travelled to Northwest, TN on Tuesday to survey the damage inflicted by a deadly tornado in Dyer County, TN. The govenor took a helicopter tour of the affected areas with the Tennessee National Guard with two other helicopters in escort. The governor was seen by this writer touring the Biffle Road area north of Newbern as well as the Sara Lee Foods facility at Newbern.

Deadly Tornado Strikes Northern Dyer County TN

Tornado-damaged home on Biffle Road, Newbern, TN. This home was moved completely off it's foundation but remained together.

A deadly tornado struck Northern Dyer County on Sunday and most of the survivors in the affected areas were still trying to find some normalcy following the devastation that occurred Sunday night.

Electrical crews were still working long hours to get the power returned to areas north of Dyersburg and Newbern, TN including; Biffle Road and Sara Lee Foods, Enochs Road, Lanesferry Road, Cobb Road, the Meacham Community, Millsfield and Harness Road. For residents this will be a much welcomed relief considering the hardship that many have faced over the
last few days.

2005 Veteran's Day Parade
thumb_Veterans Day 05 pics 016DYERSBURG, TN - Dyer Countians turned out this morning to honor and celebrate our veterans at the annual Veteran's Day parade. This years parade was held in downtown Dyersburg on the square and featured several guest speakers including Mayor Richard Hill and Chris Rimel of the 230th ASG of the Tennessee National Guard. The 230th ASG just recently returned home from service in the Irag War and they join the list of proud county veterans.
