Governor Phil Bredeson Visits Storm Damaged Area Near Newbern TN |

NEWBERN, TN - Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredeson travelled to Northwest, TN on Tuesday to survey the damage inflicted by a deadly tornado in Dyer County, TN. The govenor took a helicopter tour of the affected areas with the Tennessee National Guard with two other helicopters in escort. The governor was seen by this writer touring the Biffle Road area north of Newbern as well as the Sara Lee Foods facility at Newbern.
The governor and others arrived by helicopter after an aerial tour of the area and then transferred to a chartered bus to get an closer view of the damage that residents of the quite area of Tennessee had endured. After briefly visiting the Sara Lee Foods facility in Newbern the Governor stopped on Biffle Road to meet with families and relief workers.
The governor also made himself available to the press and was quoted as saying that this was one of the worst disasters that he has every witnessed. The governor went on to comment about the force of the storm as whole homes were wiped clean off of their foundations.
