This letter was submitted by Dennis Lee of the Patriot Guard Riders group that recently visited Dyer County to assist in protecting the family, friends and community that came to mourn the loss of PFC Kevin Edgin of Dyer County. PFC Edgin was killed on July 6th while serving in southern Afghanistan. Edgin, 31 years old, was from the Good Hope community of Dyer County and served with the 10th Mountain Division of Fort Drum, NY. He was laid to rest on Saturday, July 15th. Lee: Saturday July 15th, as you are well aware, PFC Kevin Edgin was laid to rest with full military honors. Among those in attendance were members from several state chapters of the Patriot Guard Riders. Many thanks to them for coming form Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama as well as all over Tennessee. To the Dyer County Sherriff, the deputies, the Cities of Newbern and Dyersburg Police Departments and the Constable as well, thank you for keeping us safe on the route and welcoming us to your towns and county. We can't do these missions without you, and we as a group are grateful for your service. To Wal-Mart a big thank you for allowing us to stage in your parking lot. A huge thank you to Tina Adams there who with a phone call, was more than happy to donate 7 cases of bottled water. On a day when tempatures exceeded 100 degrees, that small act, coupled with already existing fluid sources, provvided our folks with the fluids needed to sustain optimal body core tempature and avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion. To the motorcyle organizations who joined us, you honored us with your presence and you honored Kevin and his family. Lastly but most important of all, I wish to thank Kevin's family for allowing us the priviledge of sharing in this most private of moments. Our tears flowed just as freely as yours. This was my second misson with PGR, and I am thankful to belong to this group. Thank you to the entire communities for your many words of praise and thanks. They leave small marks upon our hearts.
